The Bones you love is back.

After last season’s frustrating finale, Bones returns next month with a heartwarming and very sweet season premiere that has all of the Booth-Bones chemistry you could want, along with outstanding squint comedy, a rollicking good mystery and a guest gig by Cyndi Lauper.

We just chatted up series stars Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz and Michaela Conlin and got them to spill on the season to come…

Booth’s Brain: After last season’s coma drama, the big issue is Booth’s brain. Is he really himself? And if he has residual feelings for Bones, are those feelings genuine, or are they symptoms of brain damage? Emily tells us, “Booth’s character is kind of confused about our relationship when he wakes up, and that adds a whole new element to our relationship.” Or as David puts it, in his own inestimable way, “The biggest thing coming out of last season is that my mind was shattered, and I’ve got to get it back. These genuine feelings that I have for her, I really think they’re true.” Psssst…they are, darn it!

Mondo Flirtation: The main characters never can seem to seal the deal, but that won’t stop them from continuing to make goo-goo eyes at each other. As David Boreanaz adorably tells us: “I don’t care about the crime solving. I just care about my relationship with her. The other stuff just happens. I don’t care about the bones and the crime. I care about what they’re doing over the crime scene.”

Clothes Make the Man? In the first few episodes, the series is very preoccupied with getting Booth back into gear, and part of that involves getting Booth back into his supersuit. (Fox even included a pair of funky rainbow, Booth-style socks with the season-five press kit!) As Boreanaz puts it, “I’m not dressed 100 percent because I don’t know how to dress in my Booth costume—Booth’s batsuit, whatever you call it. Yeah, that’s a utility belt. It’s a cocky belt buckle.” But don’t worry. We’re pretty sure he’ll get all the pieces together soon enough.

Yay! The best tidbit we got, however, comes from the divine Ms. Deschanel, who tells us, “There absolutely will be more kissing [between Bones and Booth].” Whoo-hoo!

Hodgela! Other good news coming out of this season? Angela and Hodgins’ long separation may finally be coming to an end. The beautiful Michaela Conlin tells us, “I hear [Jack and Angela] are going to be reconciling soon! Hopefully they’re on their way to making it back toward each other.” Whoo!

Last but Not Least: Forgive us for one second while we get up on our soapbox about Bones, a wonderful and charming series that’s just been treading the same romantic waters for much too long.

Dear Hart Hanson,

Do it. Just do it. We double-dog-dare you to put Bones and Booth together. We’ve heard the excuses about how a Bones and Booth hookup would kill the show, but the electricity between those two characters will not short out so easily. The series’ best and most powerful moments are always when Booth and Bones come together, not when they force themselves apart. The power of their strained and distant partnership would be multiplied many times over if you harnessed the thrill of their rare touches and honest moments and channeled into a complicated full-time thing. Try it. You might like it. And we would love it.

Sincerely,
Your fans

Bones premieres Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. on Fox.

In an interview with E Online Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz and Michaela Conlin discuss season 5 of “Bones”.

They discussed Booth’s brain and the ongoing flirtation between Brennan and Booth.

David reveals that “These genuine feelings that I have for her, I really thing they’re true”. He furthered said, “He really only cares about his relationship with her”. I don’t care about crime solving.

Emily tells what all fans want to know, “There absolutely will be more kissing between Bones and Booth.

Another exciting possibility comes from Michaela Conlin, (Angela,) who reveals that Hodges and Angela might find their way back to each other.

The question is, if “Bones” takes the chance and “Jumps the Shark” with Bones and Booth “getting together”, will that take away the sexual tension and thereby the reason to watch the show.

It’s the on-screen pairing Bones fans have been waiting for. No, not Booth and Brennan — Emily and Zooey! Bones is talking to Emily Deschanel’s movie-star sis, Zooey, about guest-starring this December!

“We’ve been looking for an opportunity to get the Deschanel girls together,” notes exec producer Hart Hanson, “but Zooey’s rockin’ career kept getting in the way.”

Assuming the scheduling can be worked out this time around, Hanson wants the star of this summer’s indie smash (500) Days of Summer to play (natch) a relative of Brennan’s. “We alluded to [her] having a cousin in Minnesota two seasons ago. I’d very much like to meet her in the Christmas episode.”

What say you, Bones loyalists? Happy the Deschanel sisters are finally (maybe) taking their act to the small screen? Sound off below!

In the alternate world that Booth (David Boreanaz) dreamed up in his comatose state in the controversial Bones season finale, he and Bones (Emily Deschanel) were a happily married couple, running a nightclub called the Lab with the cast of the characters from Bones showing up as varying alternate characters. We saw Sweets as a rock star, Angela as the nightclub hostess, Booth’s brother Jared as a detective and more wackiness.

We all assumed it was a onetime dream sequence, right? Well, show runner Hart Hanson teased that they might have plans for some of those alternate storylines. He might just be messing with us, but check out what he has to say about that and what else he and Emily teased about next season…

“The [finale] was full of inside jokes. It was full of inside references. It was full of echoes and insights, I hope,” said Hart during our Comic-Con chat with him last week. “And we’re going to carry some of the things we discovered in that alternate world into the real world. It’s kind of a bridge thing.”

Keyword: some. Don’t get your hopes up, though. That doesn’t mean when the new season picks up, Booth and Bones will be a couple. As we reported last week from Comic-Con, it’s still going to take a lot to really get these two together. Hart said he has a plan: “I do know. I’m not going to tell you. I do know if and when it happens [and] where it might happen.”

As for that baby storyline, Emily said, “It’s something that will probably be addressed in the next season.” Hart added, “We have some other things to get past first before Brennan can get back to thinking about a child.”

So we have possible alternate-world storylines coming next season, more back and forth with Booth and Bones, baby talk and, as we already reported, Cyndi Lauper plays a psychic in the first episode—and she may or may not have something to do with some buried bodies. What else? “We have an episode about Amish people that is really heartbreaking, actually,” said Emily. Hart added, “And right now, David is scheduled to direct our 100th episode.”

One last teaser for next season: “Episode five or six of this year is the trial of the Grave Digger, and not a lot of evidence survived,” Hart told the panel audience of the episode where Bones and Hodgins were buried alive by the villain known as the “Grave Digger” and where she wrote a letter while underground. “It’s very likely that what she wrote [in the letter] will surface as evidence in that case.”

Oh, and if it were up to the real-life Bones, Kathy Reichs, next season would also feature a Bones/House crossover. Hart explained, “We’re trying to get [Kathy] to write a script, and she always comes up with ideas like, ‘I think we should go to the pyramids.’ Or she’ll go, ‘I want to write the crossover with House.’ That’s her latest thing. [And we say] ‘Oh, Kathy. That’s not going to happen this year.’ “
